JACKDEVIL -Unholy Sacrifice CD 2014 Urbuz Rec

When we think about the Brazilian scene, there are apparently no weak bands there. Since immemorial times, any stuff from this country that I have come across turns out to be good. Same story goes with this young crew from São Luís, Maranhão which formed in 2010. So far, they have released “Under the Satan Command”2012 and “Faster than Evil” ep 2013, and “Unholy Sacrifice” I want to talk about.
It is hard to believe this stuff has fucked me up so well, and I will tell you it doesn’t happen very often when it comes to new bands.
Did I not have this cd in my hands, but just listened to it somewhere, I would certainly think it is some archival stuff from the late 80s. Here we go, it is a debut album released just a year ago. it is also nice that JACKDEVIL`s music is a tribute to the old metal school, there are plenty of NOWBHM influences, though the band themselves follow the thrash metal path.
Let’s add some Evilness to the lyrics and awesome vocals of André Nadler who molests the guitar too, and it all just is damn impressive, this stuff.
WhatI do dislike is this “dry” sound. It surely strengthens the archaic atmosphere of this stuff. Also, the bass sounds metallic. The bass player, Renato Igora seems to be obsessed with D.D. Vernin and OVERKILL. When it comes to drums, there are no triggers or any other plastic crap here, and this is good. I am totally moved by the archaic sounding guitar of Ricardo Andrade – this makes this stuff sound even more old school.
Right from the beginning, this album offers a really huge dose of excellent music. There are no filler tracks, this stuff just paralyzes a listener with its energy. Out of 10 tracks there are on this album, some are really memorable and thus my favourite. Thrash Demons Attack is a damn energetic track for instance.Age of Antichrist is a track played in middle tempos, after this track you are just aren’t able to get back on your feet again.
“KillingRazors” is another favorite track of mine with these nice METALLICA influences. “Insane speed metal” is another strong point of this album, it’s very much in the speed metalvein and, I guess, the most interesting cut. Actually, there are no weak tracks on this album. These10 tracks are 10 solid blows with a glove with solid nails right in your ugly mug, ok. So, one of the most interestingalbums of the last year. You are going to hear about JACKDEVIL again, that’s for sure!
