The Garcia- Horizonte [Sun Stone Records; 2011]

I’ve never been a stoner fan. My heart has always been much closer to flames of hell than hot, desert sun. I just never liked that kind of music, not my pair of shoes. So imagine how good must be The Garcia’s EP, so I really liked it.
“Horizonte” is a first, and so far the only release of Japanese stoner band, although some heavy metal inspirations can be noticed in their music (mostly Black Sabbath, but well, it’s nothing unusual for this kind of music). Although, everything here sounds good, songs have a good feeling, and they’re just flowing through the speakers. The only thing that should be improved here is Ryota Ito’s vocals- they’re sometimes too tiring, guy need to drink a strong coffee sometimes, yet he’s an amazing guitar player. Good riffs, and really nice solos (with strongly noticeable Tony Iommi’s inspirations) make the essence of that release. Also Hiroshi Sakahima’s making a really good job on drums. Too bad, despite a really good sound of whole release, one thing should be improved in the mix. Bass should be much more on front, as The Garcia is trio and that will just sound a way better.
So to conclude- even if this album doesn’t fit magazine’s category, and this style of music is far from my evil, metal heart- objectively “Horizonte” is a really nice EP and I enjoyed listening to it.
