EXORCIST- Utterances of Going Forth by Day CD 2014

As it seems, PENTAGRAM from Chile isn’t the only one, who forced us to wait for their debut for almost 3 decades. Gentleman from EXORCIST also didn’t hurry and released their debut after 28 years. In both cases there was worth waiting. “Utterances of Going Forth by Day” are mostly songs known from demo tapes of EXORCIST, but this time we can listen to them in studio versions. That amazing compositions recorded again started to have a new live. These material is a big ammount of condensed energy, closed in nine pieces of great speed/thrash metal.

If that album appeared in 80’s, it would declass most of releases from that times. After all these years, this songs still sound strong. It’s worth mentioning, that we’ve got here a great way of playing and amazing production. Big advantage of “Utterances of Going Forth by Day” are guitar parts, that are doing here a titanical work. Also, not without a meaning are vocals of Tymoteusz Jędrzejczyk, who recently joind EXORCIST. This young man known us also from EXMORTUM, RAGEHAMMER or until recent CREMASTER gave a band a new dose of freshness, but also a venom. Graphical layer was designed by very talented artist Jowita Kamińska, who worked for bands like MANILLA ROAD, KING DIAMOND, EXODUS and OUTRAGE.

What’s on the album? Opening “Nuns Sabbath” from cult “Voices from the Graves” is a strong shot at the beggining. Demo version was much more aggressive, but this song in new version looks much more mature. I’d like to mention about guitar parts, that on studio version ripps head. Another compositions also comes from previously mentioned demo. “Gates of Hell” have a great, metallic bas, that mixed with Judas-sounded guitar gives us an amazing atmosphere. “The Wind” is an instrumental song from tape “After The North Winds”. After that there is a time for two songs from fourth EXORCIST demo, which is over seven minutes long “After The North Winds” (pretty fast song with galloping drum rhytm) and “Ressurection”, where we can hear echoes of Heavy Metal atmosphere with fas as hell guitar. While I heard intro to “1410 Prolog. Before The Battle” it reminded me about another band from the ancient past, which is AUFGABE. Even if music is a different, it associated thanks to using samples from “Krzyżacy”. Compositions itself mixed in a  very subtle way aggression with a big dose of melodies, showing a big possibilities of the band. It’s mature, but also played with a big lightness. “1410 Epilog- Two Naked Swords” is also a dynamic song with a Heavy Metal rumbleness, and everything thanks to guitar parts, which are really strong here. Both songs creates a coherent whole, connected with Battle of Grunwald- topic, which isn’t explored every often in our national metal. “The Last Deacon” is another classic played wth a claw. Fast tempos shows listener, where is his place. In the end band prepared a composition with a totally different stylistic. “Three Battalions”, it’s an almost 9-minutes long collossus which is a tribute to three battalions of Warsaw Uprising: “Wigry”, “Parasol” abd “Zośka”. As this song is far from the stylistics of rest of the compositions, EXORCIST treated it as a bonus track, but it goes kinda well. It’s a good ballad, with a memorable, nice ballad, and even if I personally don’t like that kind of mussic very much, mostly thanks to a big ammount of keyboards- I appreciate it’s performance. Big advantage here is Tymek’s fennomenal vocal, which adds an extra aggressiveness. I’ve heard more than once, that “Three Battalions” beats more than one SABATON song and I have to tell, that something is right here. I just hope, that guys won’t betray good, old speed/thrash, and when there will be time for next album, we’ll get EXORCIST we like the most. And let’s hope that we won’t have to wait next 28 years… To those who haven’t heard “Utterances of Going Forth by Day”, and won’t to buy this album I send to address www.exorcist.pl or e-mail: Adres poczty elektronicznej jest chroniony przed robotami spamującymi.
