Shame but I got to know this band from the reedition of this band done by I Hate Records. This stuff was originally released back in 2008. Since then, this band have recorded 5 albums and an ep. Ok, better late than never – that’s what the proverb says. And I am totally frustrated as EREB ALTOR played in Poland (Wroclaw) together with BORKNAGAR – I learnt about this gig from a friend who`d gone to see them. Yeah, it is a pity as their music is really sweet. They play epic Viking metal in the vein of eternal BATHORY`s albums such as „Hammerheart” or „Twilight Of The Gods”, and from what Rafal told me (and he is a trustworthy guy) EROB ALTOR just overshadowed all the other bands at this gig. Well, this year they`re going tobe doing a mini-tour together with SAMAEL and I will not miss this out, that’s for sure!

The fact that EREB ALTOR is stylistically coincidental with Quorthon`s materials is, by no means, accidental. These two bands share same roots, traditions and are both Swedish. And so, I think that EREB ALTOR has been naturally continuing what BATHORY started, when it comes to music like this, years ago. It is just amazing to notice how influential BATHORY was and how many bands are, more or less, influenced by this group. Besides FALKENBACH, old HADES, GRAVLAND, the EREB ALTOR`s music is closest to BATHORY`s music from the “Hammerheart” era. A taste for such music grows. Thanks to EREB ALTOR, the spirit of Quorthon remains alive astheseSwedes carry on this kind of music. One should also notice the majestic and powerful sound that reminds me of CANDLEMASS. There is plenty of sorrow, nostalgia and magnificience in tracks like „Awakening”, title track „By Honour”, „Winter Wonderland” or „Wizard”. Yes, thesesongs are very memorable. I wish we had more albums like this one (which was originally released seven years ago).This stuff is still very fresh.
