When compared to later doings of SAURON, Hornology is definitely most deeply rooted in traditional black metal;though here, too, one can hear immense complicity of guitar riffing. Yes, the guitar work is one of the strongest points here. Dense, very complex riffing and destructive solos, unspeakably complex music, combined with very good vocals work really ok.

What is really of poor quality here, is a drum machine. Well, it don’t hurt too much, far from that, but it does spoil the overall impression. Luckily, this drum machine is hidden behind the guitars which are of, here on this album, 100% importance. Evil does so fucked up guitar work that you`ll be, for fucking sure, surprised. Well, Hornolgy is a complex material, performed with lots of feeling. There is a lot of going on here on this Hornology album. One cannot get bored with this stuff – there is, all the time,so plenty of new ideas that appear unexpectedly, that it`d be enough for three times so many albums to share with! Hey, SAURON is not cheap and performs technically advanced music – yet, still rooted in black metal. Such a move makes this band really unique as there is not too many a band right now which have such an attitude too. I do respect them as it’s been nine years since this stuff was recorded.
