BETRAYER- Infernum In Terra LP Witching Hour Prod 2015

We`ve had to wait for the successor of “Calamity” for a long time. Anyways, it was worth to wait. This full lengther of BETRAYER is a piece of excellent old school death metal, comparable to classic doings of MORBID ANGEL – which has been influencing BETRAYER pretty much, indeed. It is even nicer in case of BETRAYER, as the Florida based band has long forgotten how to play this type of death metal. The new face of BETRAYER is music-wise, very professional, by all means. In order to do so, Berial had gathered a bunch of excellent instrumentalists. And in result, they were able to create a strong and compact body which managed to record a genius album as well as perform live shows at a really high level. Some time ago, I had a chance to see them play live and I gotta say it was one of the best death metal concerts I seen lately. Their new tracks, when played live, get an even more brutal dimension – and combined with BETRAYER`s set of classics, result in an explosive mixture that emanates with unparalleled strength. It is good to see „Infernum in Terra” has been released as vinyl too. Well, to me it means such a move is to glorify a number of old school die-hards who love to listen to music from the noblest of media. These 8 catchy tracks are characterized by a wealth of sounds. Intensive blasts combined with a massive heaviness and complex tempos result in a very distinctive and compact material, supplemented with a large number of catchy guitar solos. This album is speedy, dynamic and utterly energetic. No time to get bored while listening to this stuff, there is a lot going on here, really! Brutality is strongly supported with the members` musical skills and album`s atmosphere. There is an almost three minute lone instrumental track “Repent”. Ok, this track is stylistically different from other songs, yet gives this material an additional dimension. This cut is a homage paid to Richard Brunelle and his epic elements we know from the first MORBID ANGEL albums. This track is very lyrical, a breather you can take, yet a very bright point of this album. The vocals of Bariel are noticeable too – yes, they`re throaty a lot but, at the same time, they are very clear, too. This album`s another strong point is its filthy sound. And thus, BETRAYER stays in touch with classic atmosphere of death metal which was popular 20 years ago. “Infernum in Terra” matches the earlier stuff of BETRAYER well. Still, one can hear how slick musicians are right now, I mean when it comes to handling their instruments. And so, BETRAYER`s music is more elaborated, more mature. BETRAYER consists of experienced musicians and this is why their music seems so mature yet very emotional. I am happy BETRAYER wasn’t tempted to have used some new studio technologies. In consequence, this stuff sounds fresh and natural. One of the best returns there`ve been so far, indeed! Very recommended. LWS
