WASP - Golgotha Napalm rec. 2015

I got to say I have been prejudiced against WASP for a long time. The reason was the fucked up way the leader behaved during WASP`s shows here in Poland. I agree, shortened as the gigs were, these were pretty decent ones, yet his attitude towards the audience was just pathetic. He seemed to have no heart, like, you know, he was somehow forced to be playing live.

I understand it can be hard for someone who previously used to play for thousands of people, not to be too fond to see later a mere 300-400 fans who turned up but, come on, he oughtn’t have treated people who came to see him like that. I am meaning, like, you know a bunch of jag-offs who don’t deserve a good live show! No good. No good at all. And so, despite the fact I like WASP, I somehow didn’t happen to listen to them too often. But when I accidently heard WASP`s new stuff I immediately changed my mind.

This material is just suffused with religious elements of Blackie, who`s recently became a convert. But, as soon as we get rid of all this religious fragments, we`ll be offered some really good music. I daresay it was his return to faith that helped Lawless to regain his creative skills. So, what we get in result, is a number of original, memorable cuts almost as good as The Headless Children or The Crimson Idol. Golgotha is in fact most similar to these above mentioned albums. There are nine tracks on this album, and all nine are awesome

. For example Scream, the track which opens up this material is rich in riffs. It’s a real journey to the past as though Blackie, touched by God he glorifies so much, was 25 years old again. And able to play music passionately and joyfully.

This track is good, and the solo part in this track is awesome too. Last Runaway is exceptionally catchy. Vocals are so good you just can’t imagine the person who did them is the same one who took part in Babylon Tour. Shotgun is next, and there’s nothing to complain about either. That’s the WASP we love most. Miss You is a tearful ballad which just knocked me down.

This track is very full of sincere emotions, sadness and yearning, so much melancholy in this, and the solo parts are just superb! In Fallen Under we can feel some monstrous power again, I really enjoyed this track. Slaves of The New World Order or Eyes of My Maker are good songs too, though not as good as Hero of the World which is a sentimental ballad. Let alone the title track which ends this album.

This track will make you cry and does confirm Blackie is a talented person, able to create a unique musical mood. No doubt, he is capable of writing memorable tracks, and thus this album is one of the best in 2015. Golgotha is an awesome recording. Wish we had more music like this one. May WASP be grand again and perform good live shows.
