DREAM DEATH-Dissemination LP Rise Above Records 2016

I won’t deny that after DREAM DEATH`s amazing return album Somnium Excessum (2013) I was anxiously waiting for their new material. Well, my expectations were high and perhaps this is why I am slightly disappointed with Dissemination. Yet, I’ll tell you friends, this album gets better and better every time I listen to it. Therefore, it is quite likely I’ll be happy with this stuff in the future. Well, we`ll see anyways. Very noticeable are guitars, in the vein of old BLACK SABBATH, I mean they`re archaic and rattling, but it don’t work too well with DREAM DEATH, I am afraid. In my view, if the band`d`ve had a wee more jet-black sound, well, Dissemination would be more powerful. Of course, this album is a continuation of what was started back in 1986, but this time, their music appears sicker. You can hear it in tracks like Expendable Blood Flow, Dominion or The Other Side, the track which, despite a plethora of psychedelic moments, is similar, atmosphere-wise, to Journey into Majesty, yet sicker and more twisted. Surely, Dissemination has plenty of the classic DREAM DEATH tracks on it, such as the title track or All in Vein. Guitar solo parts are doing a good job, really. Brian’s vocals are powerful and awesome too. Nothing Ever Will is another BLACK SABBATH`ish track to enjoy. Neutral ground is my personal favourite. You know, when you listen to DREAM DEATH`s new track, you can easily say what these guys used to listen to in their early days, and what they still do. It is awesome the band did not forget their past inspirations and still use them in their music. The album ends up with In Perpetuum with a characteristic introduction like it was taken from some Lucio Fulci horror movie. Sadly, the way the album sounds makes this material too "light". Were it more pitch black, it`d trample. On the flip side, DREAM DEATH offers a nice trip back to the 70s…so, every cloud has a silver lining…
