SEWERCIDE (Aus.)/PRESUMED DEAD (Ita.) - split 7"ep (2013) Unspeakable Axe Records

Wow! This is an amazing release and it touched straight into my heart, as it spoke directly to my soul...indeed, as it was something hugely familiar which is in the basis of my personality...and the music they play is exactly the kind of extreme metal I used to listen to when I was 14 or 15 years old! Pure extreme old school metal, taking my mind in a journey to the past, in a time when Protector, Sadus, Genocídio, Nuclear Death, Master, Repulsion, Sepultura, Insanity, Nihilist, Beleth (Jap) and many others seemed to be all in the same boat and there was no clear distinction among them, nor among death, thrash, black metal and even lots of hardcore...everybody just wanted to play fast and brutal sound to please the ears of angry kids who were all in the same vibration at the same time around the world. Sewercide, from Australia, and Presumed Dead, from Italy, joined an excellent team here to put out this fucking death/thrash split, and the only problem is the fact that they just come of one song by each band.

Well, anyway, they must have chosen their best songs (if they have more in the same vein, I NEED to get them right now!), because they are flawless, untouchable samples of the best that extreme metal has to offer the maniacs for the simple formula of the old school. Sewercide brings "Condemned to Sanity", an ultra catchy tune that seems to be midpaced, but soon takes that fast 4X4 beat common in "Morbid Visions" or "Mysanthropy", by the German Protector. Add some Autopsy-esque guitars and all that great moshing parts and you'll have the sensation this track inspires from the beginning to the end. In short, it is really stimulating to hear, in 2016, something like this made with all that old feeling of nearly 30 years ago. Excellent.

The same goes for Presumed Dead, that seems to share with Sewercide similar ideals and conceptions of what extreme music needs to be extreme. They don't need the somewhat artificial ultra fast drumming of the so-called brutal death metal from the 00's, but only the authenticity of something that is not a mere studio creation, but done by real people with a real atmosphere. "Amputated" displays this exact atmopshere, going straight to the point and bringing some real engaging music, that makes you feel that metal has still a lot to offer when it comes to the underground bands like Presumed Dead.

So, I'd like to thank Unspeakable Axe for giving birth to monsters like that and alloing the world to know its most rotten face! You got the point, men! Just get out of your seat, reader, and try to get this split if you want to know what extrem metal is! Simply amazing release! Crystiano Passos
