BLACK SILESIA ACT II 2017

The last couple of days before the festival seemed to be dragging forever, indeed. I was very excited and ready to go. Well, to leave Cracow wasn’t very easy that day as at the same time there were plenty of local people who wanted to go for their weekend out of the city, too. Anyhow, we got to the gig venue just before the concert started. Of course, we met plenty of friends outside and, busy talking, missed BESTIALITY. Damn it! They`d played live in Bielsko Biala, alongside HOBBS ANGEL OF DEATH and did a real good job. Pretty sure they did a good job at this fest too!

SLAUGHTER MESSIAH from Belgium is a band formed by Frank Lorent (or Lord Sabathon, if you will) from ENTHRONED. A real bomb they were. Their music is close to my heart very much as it is heavily influenced by old school music such as KREATOR`s Endless Pain for instance plus plenty of Hell, too! It’s a relatively young band, formed in 2008 and they`ve not recorded a full length album yet, just a handful of eps and demos. Their latest demo Morbid Re-Incantation features BATHORY`s Die In Fire cover song. Ok, let me get back to the gig itself.

The fan turnout was absolutely amazing. It was a clear indication they people are hungry for fests like that one. Maniacs long for sincere, real underground music; especially for bands who`ve not been to Poland before, yet have here a plethora of die-hard, reliable fanatics. Yes, SLAUGHTER MESSIAH did a good job making the atmosphere even harsher – that three piece Belgian band did very well. The crowd was crazy!

It hard to take any pictures, standing next to the stage, as the crowd was really insane! Still, it was worth it, as SLUGHTER MESSIAH did an amazing job that night. One of the more interesting performances I seen recently. Beside their own tracks they also covered: Bomber of godly MOTORHEAD. Another proof how influential that band was for many a generation of metal bands. Kilmister`s death left a vacant place no band shall ever be able to fill out. That’s why it was nice to hear that cover song! The crowd was very pleased too!

Another band I was really eager to see was NEKKROFUKK. It was actually the second time I saw them play live and they were fucking awesome too. They`re just reeking of a dead corpse, their music stands for annihilation of all you call holy. They played among others such cuts as Beelzebub Triumphant, Lucifero, Gasmask Vomitorium or Niewysłowiony Król Piekieł. And VENOM`s In League With Satan. Nine tracks in total, all glorifying Hell like fuck!

Another band to blaspheme that night was VIOLENTOR from Italy. Alessio Medici and Iago Bruchi are two band`s core members; who help HOBBS ANGEL OF DEATH while playing live too. Alessio, or better Dog is VIOLENTOR`s guitarist and vocalist. Their music is speed/thrash blended with plenty of Hell itself and a dose of furious MOTORHEAD.

Anyhow, VIOLENTOR took no prisoners – all they did was to crush! Yeah, that was real Inferno. The moshing was crazy man, people were truly possessed, I tell you. The mosh pit was growing with every minute devouring new victims. Rot, a speed metal track, was first. Next was Dismiss the Evil, energetic as hell, and even speedier Schizophrenic Paranoid. Man, this band was damn fast! Full of energy! They almost blew my head away with their other tracks: Maniacs and Rabid Dogs.

I saw a really skinny guy who managed to get onto the stage and started moshing there, all right. Sadly, the security ended his dance macabre really quick, ha-ha. A number of other tracks: We Hate All, Sign of Cut and Cunts Must Die killed too. To end their show, they performed two very aggressive cuts The Power of Lust and Go to Hell from their amazing debut album. Ok, their performance made me think that was it, no band was going to play any more brutal stuff that day, but hell, no. I was wrong. Since GEHENNAH was about to enter the stage! To bring their drunken Rock’n’Roll! Hell yeah.

After VIOLENTOR were done, I wasn’t quite sure if the fans could behave in any more violent way. I was, naively, thinking I was going to be able to take pictures quite easily, standing next to the stage. Oh boy, how wrong I was! Within minutes, I realized it`d be arduous a task indeed! The mob went berserk! Together with Mr. Violence (Stefan Mitander), hundreds of people throated such hits as Still the Elite, Metal Police, Under the Table Again and Six Pack Queen.

Amazing! Furious Hellcop (Micke Birgersson), like some Fozzie Bear from Muppet Show kept crushing his drum-kit. Of course, all these Let's Fall Off The Wagon”, „Decibel Rebel”, „Life Metal Must Die were performed all right! Security had to help some fainted girls out, but the crowd were being crazy buster! When GG Allin`s cover was played: Drink, Fight and Fuck, the people went ape, same for We Love Alcohol. For sure, the Swedes were amazed at what the Polish crowd was doing!

GEHENNAH`s official performance needed with Bulldozer. Some bonus tracks followed: Say Hello to Mr. Fist and Hardrocker. The crowd was just boiling but it wasn’t the concert`s apex. Shortly after, legendary Teutonic DESASTER appeared on stage. Hard to believe these guys have been around for almost 30 years! Many maniacs just weren’t too sure whether this amazing band would ever make it to Poland at all. But, fucking yeah, they made it. Man, people just went psycho when DESASTER started their show. I am 666% sure the band didn’t expect to witness what they did. I do hope we are going to see them here in Poland more often!

So, the first track was Divine Blasphemies. It was getting denser and denser with every minute – one could smell some infernal sulphur in the air, that’s for fucking sure. We were given such monsters as Ghouls to Strike, perfectly executed The Splendour of the Idols and very destructive End of Tyranny. And it was just the beginning of DESASTER`s triumphant march! The band kept merciless whipping the crowd with their onslaught of noise!

And they had real fun doing so! Nice to see they enjoyed playing music despite such a long career, eh. It was the very Stefan "Tormentor" Hüskens who abused the drums (he play salso in ASPHYX). This guy isn’t skinny, you know, but still damn slick! My jaw was wide open! It was really impressed!

Ok, no more fucking around. Here came Desaster Teutonic Steel. That track put maniacs into a wave of head banging. What an amazing song! Another strike of the panzer fist full of spikes was already there – Devil’s Sword. The atmosphere was getting even higher. Shit, this track played live kills totally! It reeks of KREATOR`s Endless Pain, yup!

Hellbangers is a new cut but its specific atmosphere can revive a dead person, for sure. That’s why I wasn’t surprised to see what was going on in the mosh pit. Ok, that brutal violence and bestiality was damn hellish energetic. Damnation Ad Bestias was another brand new track, and killer too. Some people fainted, it was just too much for them!

The well balanced set-list blended old and new tracks together. That was a good move. Next was Necropolis Karthago from immortal album Tyrants of the Netherworld. What a song! Full of untamed aggression. After that condensed attack on all that is deemed sacred, we got Satan's Soldiers Syndicate – it was damn fast but the mob kept up with the frantic tempo of that track easily!

I am sure the band was surprised to see such frantic maniacs! Yes, Polish fans are crazy watching bands play live. Another classic/old-school track In a Winter Battle and Metalized Blood. Some guys were moved to tears. And the last was KREATOR`s Tormentor from their immortal album Endless Pain.

This track was killer. I was moshing like crazy and still Markus was even crazier. He was running around, bugging Stefan all the time! Stefan did misbehave too! Damn, those guys had fun! Guido, as a true Satanist, was twisting his mouth in a real funny way! Odin, a new member, was trying to look serious but eventually took it easy, most likely because of the amount of beer he drank. He seemed tired but he managed and did a good job! No shame on him!

Well, I can only say this year`s Black Silesia Festival was an amazing event. I respect the organizers very much. They did a good job. Beside Into the Abyss it is undeniably Poland`s best festival contemporarily. I was honoured and just very happy to be able to partake in it, indeed!
