ANTICHRIST Sinful Birth (I Hate Records, 2017)

I have stumbled across Swedish ANTICHRISTthanks to "Band of the Week" and to tell you the truth, I got absorbed in their debut album for some time. We`re here dealing here with primitive, satanic thrash the way it was popular in the 80s and as well as with so called ²first wave² of black metal. Catchy, indeed, right. Now, 6 years later, we are enjoying band`s second full lengther. Well, I feel slightly disappointed if you ask me. The album cover looks alluring, all right, and the intro sounds very black metal`ish, so to say. But how `bout the music this album features? Well, nothing new to my ears as this is lacking fresh ideas, sadly. Savage Mutilationsis the first song served to us here, a fastsong indeed and this cut is apparently heralding what kind of ²storm²is to come that we can expect but what is given next becomesjust flat as fuck. Nothing memorable at all. It is a wee depressing, you know, we expected something better. Reverberating vocals are annoying a bit, these don’t match the music`s sound wall, which is strong, firm and solid. Good are DARKTHRONE`ish solo parts (I mean they`re in the vein of Norwegians` latest albums). Inshort, this is obscure thrash, heavily influenced by DESTRUCTIONand slightly similar to NOCTURNALfrom Germany or defunct CRUEL FORCE. This is all ok, but when compared to their debut album, well, this stuff doesn’toffer anything special at all. Recommended for all fans of this kind of stuff, that’s it.
