When I opened the cd booklet, I saw a bunch of Chilean dudes dressed in SUFFOCATION, BOLT THROWER, ANATHEMA tee shirts which made me think, at first,the content might be of brutal death metal nature; which isn’t my favorite style, to tell you the truth. I was wrong since this is very interesting, pitch-black death metal. True, this is just four tracks but these are enough to see clearly what these guys have to offer us. PISTILOS OPIUM`s sound is solid and embraces a listener with pure darkness. Claudio Anacoda`svocals are spitted out in Spanish, these are spiteful and truly bestial.Yeah, the vox make this music sound even more diabolical. The first track this ep features, amazing Distanciastarts this march of the dead off. It crushes you with its powerful sound and stomps you to the ground – so massive and heavy it is. I can hear some NECROPHAGIA/CELTIC FROST influences in the riffs, here, no doubt. Awesome solos disperse the thick, infernal haze engulfing this recording. The titular track:Hibrido is a real bone crusher, and candidly, this one is a very nice one. Pernicioso stands for powerful guitars, amazing climatic guitar solos and this unearthly reverb which makes this track so good and catchy. Yet, there is a lot of black metal in these riffs too. All draped in impenetrable darkness…and some doomy parts which render this songreallyinteresting. Simple music, that’s true, but there’s a lot going on in this song, which ends with the idea we know from Emperor`s Return, no joke. Drumming is awesome in this one, too. The last track, Destruccion De Fe is a typical death metal cut. I am a bit disappointed that this ep is so short, four tracks aren’t enough for me. I need more music like this. Remember this name: PISTILOS OPIUM! They`ll be back again!
