WIJ - Dziwidło CD Medication Records 2021

When my pal gave me this band`s single song (VENOM`s In league with Satan) for review I was stunned on what I listened to, to say the least.

Yes, the above-mentioned cover (sung in Polish and originally executed by a certain Newcastle trio) is indeed excellent.

Sometime later, I got a full-length CD by WIJ and I will tell you that I was really impressed with what I found on it... WIJ`s music is deeply rooted in the evil-spirited rock from the 70s, mixed with stoner`s heaviness as well as suffused with plenty of old, jovial BLACK SABBATH.

Maria`s original vocals make this music even better. It’s been a while indeed since I`ve been so impressed with such music for the last time.

Maybe was it the Devils Blood Come, Reap, ages ago?

Yes, no such stunning stuff here in Poland until now. Dziwidło is indeed an alluring album; these sounds are very charming, attractive and almost spiritual.

Quite hard to break the spell this hypnotic album casts at a listener, I am serious. Maria`s lyrics are very interesting, her voice very, very expressive, articulative and distinctive. All these “ingredients” work perfect. Whether you like this music or you don’t – well, it’s up to you, really; no worries.

But anyone who`s listened to this album, will surely appreciate the charming vocals. Of course, Dziwidło doesn’t stand for great lyrics only but I am certain these need to be deemed as one of their strongest points. The music itself isn’t particularly complex and that’s a good thing because simplicity means power. Right from the very beginning, this album is a pleasant listening because Żmij, the first track on this album strikes us with its omnipotent power.

One of album`s strongest points, for sure. Dziwidło, the title track is very SABBATH`ish in my view and a real killer. There is more good music coming, no worries.

W Przymierzu z Diablem, Wielki Martwy, Łapacz Snów make my hair stand on end; and together with album`s last track: Tyrania Trupa these are simply outstanding cuts with great lyrics. Some technical details here – the album was produced and mixed by Haldor Grunberg from Satanic Audio, the layout was executed by a famous artist, photographer and graphic designer - Maurycy Gomulicki, photos by Agata Wrońska and Rafał Dominik.

The line-up features three musicians:

Maria aka Tuja Szmaragd (THE REAL GONE TONES) – vocals and lyrics,

Grzegorz (SOULBURNERS, SNOWGROOMERS) – baritone guitar

Miko (KOMETY, ELVIS DELUXE) – drums

(Musical trios are best – it has been proved again here)

Should you not have listened to Dziwidło, well, get this album now!
